Pumice
-chinchillas love to chew and some chins love pumice.
I am pleased to offer Canadian Pumice! Yes, believe it. 2300 years ago a volcano errupted in British Columbia and now there is a supply of high quality pumice. I have spoken with a Professor and Chair in Geology from UofT and this is what Alexander (Sandy) Cruden advised me:
"Technically speaking all types of pumice should be similar regardless of
their place of origin. Pumice is a type of volcanic glass, high in silica,
that is made up of thin strands of glass, welded together and full of air
between the strands (which is why it is porous, rough and can float). It is
formed during certain types of explosive volcanic eruptions."
I would not advice using ground pumice as chinchilla dust though, as silica has been known to cause breathing and eye problems in people and animals. Which is why Blue Sparkle and other chinchilla dust are more popular.
